Naivaadhoo

Naivaadhoo is an inhabited island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, in the far north of the Maldives, geographically part of Thiladhummathi Atoll. It lies some 285 km from Malé, making it one of the more remote islands a visitor might consider. According to the 2022 census, 495 people live here.

The island functions as a local community rather than a tourism hub. It has its own council office, a magistrate court, a mosque, a health centre and a school, reflecting its role as an administrative and residential settlement rather than a resort destination. A handful of clubs and NGOs, including sports clubs and a youth association, are active locally.

Naivaadhoo can be reached by domestic flight or local ferry. Anyone visiting should expect an island shaped by everyday Maldivian life rather than by holiday infrastructure, distinguishing it from the more tourism-oriented islands elsewhere in the archipelago.
