Miladhoo

Miladhoo lies in Noonu Atoll, about 190 km north of Malé, and had a resident population of 933 at the 2022 census. It was historically the most developed and most populous island in the atoll, a status reflected in its long-standing local community life today.

The island's economy rests mainly on fishing and tourism, with a number of residents also working as taxi drivers in Malé. Miladhoo has a particular reputation in sport, having produced the atoll's most successful football side: Miladhoo DX Sports Club won the Zone Champions League in 2004.

Community life on Miladhoo is marked by its Eid celebrations, for which the island is locally well known. Two old mounds, known as Us-Gandu and Redhinge Funi, were recorded on the island in a 1986 report to UNESCO, pointing to a longer history than its modern development suggests.
