Maarandhoo

Maarandhoo lies in Haa Alif Atoll, in the north of the Maldives, geographically part of what is traditionally known as Thiladhummathi Atoll. It sits some 300 km from Malé, making it one of the more distant inhabited islands from the capital, and this remoteness shapes much of its character as a quiet, self-contained community rather than a place geared towards outside visitors.

At the 2022 census, Maarandhoo recorded a resident population of 667. It is governed as its own administrative constituency by the Maarandhoo Island Council, and daily life on the island centres on the local community rather than tourism.

There is little to suggest Maarandhoo has developed any visitor-facing industry, and it is best understood as a working island rather than a holiday destination. Those wishing to reach it can do so by domestic flight or local ferry, though the long distance from Malé means it requires deliberate planning rather than being a casual add-on to a Maldives trip.
