Gamu

Gamu is an island in Laamu Atoll, roughly 240 kilometres from Male' and reached by domestic flight. According to the 2022 census, it has a resident population of 4,790, making it one of the more populous islands in the atoll.

The island is known chiefly for Kadhdhoo Airport, which lies within Laamu Atoll and is linked by a causeway to neighbouring islands. This connection means Gamu functions as something of a hub for travel and access within the atoll, rather than an isolated outpost reached only by boat.

Compared with smaller, quieter islands elsewhere in Laamu, Gamu's link to the airport and causeway network gives it a more connected, practical character, useful for anyone planning onward travel within the atoll.
