Meemu Atoll

Meemu Atoll, known traditionally as Mulaku Atholhu, is one of the administrative divisions of the central Maldives, taking its official code name from the Thaana alphabetical sequence used to label the country's atolls rather than from any local usage. Its capital is Muli.

The atoll corresponds to a single natural atoll, sometimes rendered Mulak Atoll or Mulakatolhu, and sits among the group of administrative divisions whose code letters run north to south. As with several other divisions, the modern letter-based name is a convenience adopted mainly by visitors, and differs from the Dhivehi name by which islanders themselves refer to the atoll.

Historically, Kolhufushi Island within the atoll has a mosque considered of historical value, though no Buddhist-era remains have been recorded here, unlike some other Maldivian atolls. Off the south-eastern reef of Kolhuvaariyaafushi island lies the wreck of the Kalhuohfummi, dated to 1573, a point of historical interest for the atoll.
